I stand before you with hand on knee,
Begging for my life to be set free.
So I ask," Please, look at me,
And tell me that you'll answer my plea.

You stare at me with that twinkle in your eyes,
That same twinkle I see flashing brilliantly in the skies.
"Nay!!" you say, confusing me with your feverish lies.

"Your life belongs to me and I shall deal with it as I please!",
I feel the world suffocating me;dropping me to both knees.

A sinister smile escapes your face,
Knowing that your power over me, will keep me in place.

I raise my head slowly and reach my hand out to you,
"What I say now is what I feel---what is true.
That as much as I may love thee,
What we want will never be."

"What we want will never be?!" you repeat,
Grabbing my shoulders and lifting me to my feet.
"It's not you I want, rather your soul,
I need it to fill my core;to fill this empty hole."

"I'm sorry my love, but you give me no choice,
You don't fill me with peace;rather a constant rambling---and endless noise.
I ask only one thing of you my love, and that's for you to set me free.
To hold me in your hands and rescue me........"

Your sentiments sing loud and clear here, Mark... Love has a strange power over us all.. Do try to remember that only you can set yourself free...

I do agree. There are few things more horrendous than one-way love, where one is the lover and the other is the user. Good poem.

There is a lot of power behind this poem, but often we give the power to others instead of ourselves. Only we can change our lives

Nan, Balladeer, Hoot, thank you for your words of encouragement.  I realize that I keep writing so many depressing words, but that is what my heart is feeling at the time.  To be able to sit here and pour out my soul to you all and hear your words of comfort....well,it brings out a smile----which quite frankly, has been so hard to come by lately.  Thanks again, and I appreciate your support....

Sorry, guys but you gave me no choice.  I had to do it, seriously.
I can't help it if I'm weak, I just wanted some more feelings on this....geez

Well, now how in the world did I miss this? This is wonderful Mark! Very well done! And no need to apologize for bringing it back up!
I'm glad you did since I missed it somehow!

This said a lot! What a place we have here that we can pour out our soul isn't it?
We have to have control over us, and not leave that in someone else's hands.
When we depend on others to make us happy, we will most likely be let down.  Hope your heart becomes lighter and your days a bit brighter!
