My existance in my mommy's womb, forced her body to create some extra room. I came straight from miracleland, with my skin color being as pure as sand. Right now, I'm twitching in my mommy's tummy because, I'm very happy. I'm glad that she decided to have me because, one chance was all I needed. Once my eyes wre fully developed, I began to look out of the belly button window. I saw my dad wearing a frown and I'm wondering if they even want me around. If not, I'll be back in miracleland, until I'm eventually in the right hands. I'm hopping that my parents agree on this because, life was something that I couldn't miss! I think that my parents don't even want me and if that's so, then I will become very angry. Well, they got 120 days to seal my fate but it seems like a choice, that they don't wanna take. Four months passed by and I guess that they wanna keep me but, I still don't know if they are happy. Everytime I look outside, the light kills my eyes. I got so much curiosity in me, that I can't hold it inside. Mommy was sitting down resting and asking her doctor some questions. I heard music in the background, so I moved my hands and feet up and down. It's no surprise that most black babies have rhythm because, it seems as if it was born in them. I'm eating food from mommy's tube and I'm all covered in this thick goo. My umbilical cord was giving me trouble, as it increased by the double. Eventually, it was choking me! Time was getting closer, as poppa played the opposer, in the clinic, till the last minute. I'm watching my parents argue, over what to do. Everytime they fight, I wondered if I would ever see the light. This place called "world", was so large to my view, that when I get out of here, I wouldn't know what to do. Month five went by and so did month six, and one day, I heard mommy calling me "Rick". Month seven went by and so did minth eight and it was quicker than I could anticipate. I wanted to be born in June but God had already decided my time and he said "soon". Finally it's Sept. 13, 1983 and I'm ready! I was very happy as everybody waited for me. My head popped out and my first screams escaped from my mouth. Tears were falling down my parents eyes because, the sight of me, was too hard to hold inside. They decided to keep me after all bacause, they realized that it was God's call. Pops said, " we have a good looking baby and he looks just like me! Daddy carefully placed me in mommmy's arm, without any harm. Finally , I got to see my mommy. As she held me by her side, I looked at her and saw all the love in her eyes. At that point, I saw why she decided to keep me. Nathan |

Mother's eyes do have that special look, don't they, Nate? Say are you really that young? Or is this about somebody else?! |

Young or not, Nate, you're thinking from a point of view that some of us never would...quite an interesting piece you have here!!! Never knew there was a belly-button window...but cute idea!! Open arms can be the most fragile in the world... |

Nate- What a tender look at life about to be ... and then the miracle of it all. Poignant piece. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ noles1@totcon.com |
