A Girl Named Vandana There is a girl in India Who writes a verse like song of lark I happened on her poem one day And found a quite distinguished mark She seemed to me a poet with A lot of beauty in her thought And saw between the lines she wrote The words and phrases that she sought I wrote a letter to her name In sort of curiosity And found that she indeed has penned A lot of lovely poetry And then to my delight she told The answer to my poet's thirst That English language is to her The second language, not the first And so it follows that her verse Is written in a different way But read the lovely thoughts she writes And add some beauty to your day Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 01-22-2000).] |

What a touching tribute to this poet. I hope you have sent it to her. In whatever language, your heart is in your words. |

Vandana is one of the poets I always read... so am glad you wrote this for her... to be able to write as much as she does in a language foreign to her shows her talents.. way to go Vandana... when she first started submitting, I offered to assist her in her language... decided I probably need her help more.. *smile* |

Vandana- I was just talking on the phone to Elizabeth and we were talking about you and your lovely poetry. Keep it up. I see a beauty from across the sea beckoning to me. It's all I can do to manage two languages .. well, English, of course ... and English with a 'Southern accent'. Oh, guess you can't read that inflection in my poetry, huh? Vandana, you keep it up gal. We love you. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

The thoughts she expresses are absolutely wonderful. I've always admired how well she does with the English language. This is a beautiful poem for a beautiful poet by another beautiful poet!! Denise |
