CONVERSING WITH CUPID

I climbed a great mountain to challenge the gods
On my perilous journey I've defied all the odds
Upon reaching the summit they asked whom I seek
The one you call Cupid with him I must speak

They could tell I was irked judging from my inflection
Shifting their gaze they gave me the direction
I walked through the arches of brilliant white stone
Then finally I found him just sitting alone

There you are Cupid I think we should talk
Looking perplexed I continued to squawk
What is this great love that you constantly tout
For love is one thing that I live without

I told him my story and all of my pain
And how it was love that drove me insane
He listened politely to things I did say
Then uttered these words which blew me away

To live without love is really not living
With no one to share or take part in your giving
No soft tender hand to gently caress you
Or when you should sneeze to just say God bless you

You speak of your loss and how you have suffered
Locked tight in your shell that keeps you so buffered
From the whole world of which you are finished
But know this right now it's your heart that's diminished

For love you now say you can live without
Sitting alone while you sniffle and pout
You're fooling yourself you must now admit
Because it was you who decided to quit

What shall I then do to me you inquire
To find a pure heart to love and inspire
Search deep in your soul and you'll find the answer
To win the true love of your soft spoken dancer

But to continue your trek building castles of sand
Alone you will be with no helping hand
So mark my words now for there will come a day
When the oceans will rise and wash them away

After he had finished I sat back and thought
To look from his perspective is what I did not
I created my shell out of anger and fright
But to think of it now I know that he's right

Thank you dear Cupid for what you have said
Your words I will carry with me to my bed
Tomorrow I see will be so much brighter
For living with love only makes a heart lighter

And now as I leave I feel kind of stupid
Having spent time conversing with Cupid
He shattered my shell and forced me to see
That a man full of love is all I should be

Greg-
This is simply awesome.
What a beautiful, thought-provoking,
action-invoking piece.

From the heart of Florida
to the coast of Huntington Beach, CA
here's hoping you have a wonderful day.

Huntington Beach was the destination of
my first visit to California some 12 years
ago and have since returned some four times.
It is a lovely area.

Glad to welcome you to the pages of
Passion's poets.  Hope to see more of your
wonderful work.

Smart guy, that Cupid!

The journey to inner fulfillment has begun. Admitting and acknowledging love is the vital first step.  Without we wither and die a slow and painful death...

A conversation with cupid,
Such wisdom he did bestow,
But still you find yourself alone,
It hurts this letting go.

Lessons I too have learned,
Such a gift this love and understanding,
Don't settle for a little,
Find the love of your life and all joys are remaining.

Let your heart guide you. It whispers, so listen closely.

Great Poem
I've had a few conversations with him myself...but mine perhaps weren't as friendly
