The Effects of War By Miss Abagail Mannering The shrill sound of the fifer's song contrasts sharply with the beating drums. The procession of soldiers march by- clad with threadbare, mismatched uniforms... Most shoeless, all starving scarecrows of men. Hungry not only for enough food to eat but for better times that shall never come again. The light in ther eyes..no longer there, for they've seen far too much death and horrors unspeakable to be jolly any longer. The light-heartedness in their step... now reduced to the plodding of broken dreams and heavy hearts. Who cares for the loosers, those gallant men that fought just as hard as the victors? The loved ones that they return home to won't recognize them. Who cares for the gallant boys in grey? |

This is a great work on a horrid subject... 'Writing sharpens life; life enriches writing' Sylvia Plath |
