Of Children, on Change Winter’s decent, unwelcome tempests clashing, crashing castles. Purity of youth, a fragile fortress. Worlds in miniature grapple change, ties to the known untied, shoes that no longer fit. Feelings of loss that darken dreams shall soon surpass, so sleep sweet, my child. Your blanket of sanctuary, shredded at the seams, shall be mended by quieten hands. Unadorned, the blameless sky beckons you to smile, trees call upon you to skip, hop, and dance. Imagination, saved up in heaven’s coffers, rains golden, sounds of laughter filling yards, renewing souls. © 2000 Corinne Bailey |

Beautiful, Corinne! This gave me a soft peaceful feeling! Denise And slight is the sting of his trouble Whose winnings are less than his worth; For he who is honest is noble, Whatever his fortunes or birth.~~~Alice Cary, ~Nobility~ |

I can feel the contrast as I read this almost the struggle between the simplicity of a child and the reality and responsibility of an adult.VERY UNIQUE! |

Corinne, This is excellent, quite a good read you've turned out. The calls to life for a child with winter descending this sleeptime. So wonderful. Rus |

Corinne - A person's poetry tells much about them. Yours is consistently insightful, sagacious, and exudes contentment... How wonderful to see someone who appreciates the best life has to offer... |

Denise, thank you - striving for calm in the midst of a storm! And Paul - yes, you've nailed it! Although, going back and reading this poem, it seems a bit obtuse to me (like, who could ever understand what this thing means!, when a child's world goes from idyllic to torn apart, the healing process begins again. It's just sad that they have to become little adults so early in life.... Russ, thank you! Nan, you are too kind! Many lessons to go before I become the words you used here, but I have a great mentor that guides me on my way, giving me that swift kick in the bum on a routine basis! Corinne |
