Raffaello Benelli moved in down the street Dark brown eyes and a smile so sweet Driving a red convertible Ferrari Dressed like he just came home from safari I stood in baggy shorts, garden hose in my hand, Staring like a fool, just watering the sand! The moving truck pulled in front of the house Just then I noticed the stain on my blouse All his furniture was leather and chrome Sleek sofa and chairs, such a manly home! I ran in the house to ‘put on my face’ Determined he wouldn’t see my casual disgrace I decided to welcome him to our thoroughfare And find out if he had a Mrs. somewhere But just as I entered his front yard He stormed out the door, breathing hard Swearing in Italian, I guess it was that, Pulling on a leather jacket and baseball cap His jacket said ‘Black Eagle’ on the back And he pulled leather gloves from a black leather pack I started to speak, and he looked in my eyes It was all I could do to breathe in quick sighs The man was an angel sent here from heaven On a scale of one to five, he was a seven! He took my hand and told me his name I blurted out ‘I love you!’ to my great shame He smiled softly and patted my arm And jumped in his car with a look of alarm. Perhaps you’ll think I’ve learned from this That I don’t dream of ‘our’ first kiss But I’ve always been a dreamer you see So I’ll always dream of Raffaello Benelli |

He was probably a terrible kisser. I don't think you should waste too much time dreaming. Funny, funny poem Liz |

Hi Poet deVine, Sometimes the greatest muses come from having fun! In this one, you have written a vivid scene so very well. A big smile for me this morning. Now, I'm going furniture shopping. Rus |

Thank you all! Nan, if it says Stouffer's i can cook it! Note to Rus: don't buy leather and chrome..get something soft and cushy! Inspiration! When this gets more responses, I'll let you in on where this specific inspiration came from (you may be surprised!)..until then... |

This was funny and a well done treasure but I'm not sure of that Italian pleasure. My suggestion is keep the hose it belongs to you and you know where it goes. In the dew of little things, the heart finds its morning and is refreshed. (ee cummings) |

OK, time to 'fess up with the source of inspiration...and perspiration, probably... Sunshine Look, then, into thine heart, and write ~~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow |

You had me laughing too, now tell us.....what was the inspiration for this fantasically funny piece?! Denise And slight is the sting of his trouble Whose winnings are less than his worth; For he who is honest is noble, Whatever his fortunes or birth.~~~Alice Cary, ~Nobility~ |

I'm getting more and more curious about Rafaello. When I read the title, I thought he was some tenor I never heard of. But whether or not he is a good kisser, I'm still curious as to where the inspiration came from. And if HE's a good kisser. Liz |

This was bound to be an ‘Automatic’ success with me PDV , you’ve written a truly witty poem that I just ‘Barreled’ through chuckling all the way. ( Can you write one about the M1 Super 90??? ) Craig Yes, I admit your general rule. That every poet is a fool: But I myself may serve to show it. That every fool is not a poet. |

Herein lies the true tale of inspiration behind this poem: My good buddy Craig is shopping for a new shotgun (not a rifle, there is a difference I've been told ) Well, the gun manufacturer is named Benelli! One of the style Craig was looking at was the Raffaello..I thought it was a cool combination...Another style is the Black Eagle - this is a nice rifle ..hm, er shotgun! And the hose reference is to an act of bravery that Craig performed about a month ago..seems the house next to his was on fire...he ran outside, grabbed the garden hose, broke a window and put the fire out.. before the firemen got there... our own, quiet, poet Craig is a hero! So this poem was written with several references that only he understood until now. Craig, if I've embarrassed you by the hero bit, I do apologize...but not too much... |

Poet dV, this is an exceptionally comedic piece! Liked it very much, and enjoyed the way you incorporated the references to Craig's shotgun shopping. Now, you say that with his hose he was putting OUT a fire??? Claire |
