Direct from the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recently received several inquiries concerning an e-mail message about people who have been infected with "Klingerman virus" after opening gift packages delivered to them in the mail. According to the e-mail message, a number of people became ill with a viral infection after handling a sponge contained in a package marked, "A gift for you from the Klingerman Foundation." The e-mail is a hoax. There is no "Klingerman virus," and the information in the e-mail notice is untrue. If you receive an e-mail message about "Klingerman virus," please do not forward it to others. Although the e-mail message is a hoax, if you are concerned about the contents of a package you receive in the mail, contact your local post office. It is a criminal offense to send potentially hazardous agents through the mail for the purpose of deliberately causing harm to human health. When such an incident occurs, the local emergency response system should be activated by dialing 911 in most communities; in communities without 911 systems, local law enforcement authorities should be notified. The local FBI field office and local and state public health authorities also should be notified. Just goes to show you folks, don't believe everything you read!!! But to one person, you may be the world. [This message has been edited by Sven (edited 06-27-2001).] |

Actually, it is a form of virus ... too often seen today. Think about it ... if every body sent this "virus alert" email to everybody they knew in an effort to help them ... what does it do to the bandwidth on the internet? That's one of the reasons the internet is slow. Email has grown exponentially due to "normal" use. Calculate in the "virus" hoaxes and we have large problems. Oh, by the way, that is how I make my living. No, not designing viruses ... I am a computer tech ... Argh, now my secret's out! |

I've gotten at least three forwards concerning this 'virus' over the last few months...all of which I ignored (kind of like I ignore those ads that say, 'Earn $3000/week using your own computer at home'. It's a strange world we live in. |

Sevvey, I for one am glad that most people don't believe everything that they read. . . Interloper, you've got a great point, how many of us foward these things without checking on them? Granted, most of us don't have a lot of time, but how many of us blindly send these things on without thinking about them??? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- To the world, you may only be one person.
