Peter Jennings died of lung cancer tonight, and his loss is one I believe will touch the hearts of an entire nation. I grew up watching Peter Jennings with my grandfather. His coverage of the news was always honest. But beyond that, it was heartfelt.

Regardless of your religious beliefs, and whether or not you pray, I ask that you send some positive thoughts to Jennings' surviving wife and two children.

In agreement here. I just read this news a few minutes ago. He was an anchor for many.

I'm gonna miss his dry wit and apt reporting.  Whole lot more likable than Rather.

He's held a spot in our home for many years; I agree with all reports - he left us much too soon.

I hated so much to hear of Mr. Jennings' passing. He was an excellent reporter, and a very intelligant man, in spite of him never completing high school! What an achievement. May he rest in peace.

I never was a prolific watcher of Jennings' program, but it is quite obvious he has touched and influenced so many and he indeed greatly influenced the name of anchor as Cronkite also has.

Rest in peace, Peter!

The problem with the media today is that it is laden with non-reporters who are trying to mediate arguments between non-representatives of issues.

If someone is an expert on the weather they'll dig up somebody that reads the farmers almanac to dispute the claims of the meterologist giving equal footing to each participant without ever actually contributing anything to the discussion - merely asking questions (many of them innane and designed to enrage the participants).

Jennings comes from a time when reporting meant actually trying to figure out what happened, what is going on, and then delivering a cogent message to the world -- that will be missed -- already has been.

He was a master broadcaster -- and by that I mean that he knew how to use his instruments -- his face -- his voice.. and he was a superb writer as well -- everything he did was an act -- and it was all real too.. that's the real trick of the trade..

Some of his best work he did with children.. I always liked to catch his saturday morning town meetings with kids if I could -- he had a real way of relating to them one on one and getting them to point out to the adults what the real issues were.

All great men fall.

The men and women who follow must now in turn become great.
