23 Women and a Cameraman (A Colorado Poem from 1972) Returning from a night of arid peace And contemplation on a ledge below The dome shaped, wind cleansed summit Of Mount Sneffles, twenty thee women and A cameraman regained their breath Though still above ten thousand feet, Then lost it promptly to the view of Yankee Boy. The situation called for joy. Twin waterfalls and fields of columbine Required naked pagan celebration. The women laughed and wept and cleansed Themselves in frigid snowmelt. The cameraman Recorded all, in modest disbelief. Perhaps he had achieved a goal, recording, Not to comment, but to see that variations of flesh and flowers have a commonality. What’s blue about a columbine, a lupine, Foxglove, penstemon, forget me not? (oh, never!) What’s womanly, outrageously concealed, Until the cameraman dissolves in conjoined Moments of reality? The women sang At night. The cameraman joined in and lost His objectivity. And when, invited to a bed, He acquiesced to columbines. Woke up. |

Hi Brad -- Not only a let down, I don't even know where it comes from. Actually, I do -- it comes from collating things late at night and posting something I could barely see. Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play? Or, if you can't humiliate yourself, who's gonna do it for ya? Best, Jim |

well, I really liked the "woke up" part -- but what do I know? (I took it as an enlightment thing...but then, what ain't?) If this is a mistake, guess what? So was I! |
