Powdered, primped, encasketed,
Into the earth I slide.
I don't care if Death be proud
If God just be not snide.

Only what a heart wants shall God ever give
Death to the dead, life for those who live.
Evry' soul must be sifted, and this is the sieve

You people and your talent.

Jerks.

A rather enlightening piece, I enjoyed.

Paul -- "Jerks?"  Jesters, maybe, but not jerks.

There is a long discussion in Philosophy 101 Forum which touches on the subject of the poet as "fool."  (You can't miss it, it has, like 50 responses.)  Think about the role of the fool, or jester, in history, for a moment.  In court, he was the only person allowed to speak the truth in the King's presence without getting his head chopped off.

Then look at the role of the fool in literature.  It runs, at least, from Aristophanes through Forrest Gump.

Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche, driving force behind Shambala Press and the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics, responding to a remark that Alan Ginsberg was a horse's "patoot" suggested that a horse's "patoot" or "jerk" represented a very high state of spiritual development.

Of course, the Rinpoche was drunk to the point of puking at the time...

An etymological path might shed some light on the jester thing.  A fool is defined by non- fools.  Non-fools make up the majority of the human race. But I as a fool, entitled by the majority, may label the majority as fools.  After-all, this is my world. I'm tired.  I'll have to get back to this one.

Would I would want an epitaph
these would be the words I'd want--
but would I'd want an epitaph
death, I think, would ask I haunt
prowling on the cusp of pain
begging I might live again
for a minute more...

I much enjoyed.

It's um, inspirational, and makes me crave steak, rare to medium.

And don't even get me started on Fools and journey's:

"Oh very Jung, what will you leave us this time?"
