Around the fireplace long ago
when I was a tiny tot
my grandfather told a story
that I have not forgot
And I doubt I ever will,
forget a tale so sad
In fact, not a more sorrow one
has yet, to me, been had

"Her Eyes," He said,
"Her eyes, I won't ever forget...
So filled with tears and sorrow,
overflowing with regret..
You see, I was the captain
of the finest ship of the sea,
She was a simple working girl
and she was in love with me.
I couldn't keep away from her
She was such a sight to see.
The seven wonders of the world
Couldn't compare with her beauty.

Her hips they swayed from side to side
her eyes could captivate
and every word from her lips
made me sure of my soul mate
Together we spent three long months
'til I was called to go
To this day, where she is.
I have not come to know.
I loved her with all my might
It happened so very fast
But when I had to set sail...
Well, here's what came to pass:
She stood at the dock,
clinging to my chest
I will never, ever forget
what was her last request
She wanted me to stay
but she knew I had to depart
So she pulled off her necklace,
the locket shaped like a heart.
She placed it oh so carefully
around my shaking neck.
then pulled me closer to her
holding me on that deck.
I smiled at her once more time
wiped the tear from her cheek
I kissed her lips again real soft
And asked her not to speak
The last look she gave me
showed me all I needed to know
I shouldn't be leaving
I shouldn't have to go.
Her eyes etched themselves
forever in my mind
Then I boarded slowly
Thinking the world unkind

A lifetime's past since I last saw her
standing on that deck..
A lifetime's past, and yet somehow,
The locket's still 'round my neck"
That's when he pulled
the chain from under his shirt
he looked at it quietly
wiping away the dirt
I stared at him closely
And I'll never forget his eyes.
Tears rolled down his cheeks
As he remembered their goodbyes
"Her eyes" He said one last time.
"I knew I loved them so
But somehow, for some reason
I just let them go.
So they'll haunt my dreams forever
And never leave me be
Cause I know I traded my soul mate
for the blue-green sea"

And around that fireplace
Oh so long ago
I saw my grandpa's weakest time
And I'll never let that go.

I cant believe how long i waited
for the boy to turn into my man...

Now if i could figure out, if it was worth the wait.

Wow... that choked me up there towards the end. The part about the look in her eyes kinda hit a little too close to home,  a powerful read. Thanks i enjoyed it very much.

a comment..is this is a fictional poem or a factual based?

I speak insanity. I write fantasy. I sleep reality.

totally fictional. sorry if that ruins the image, lol, but any stories that my actual grandfather would tell wouldn't get through the moderators, they're soo bad. haha
