SACHMO

I'm convinced that Marmilade* is Louis Armstrong reincarnated.
You can almost see it if you look in his eyes.
On one hand, he has the carefree nature,
But on the other, a demand for perfection.

You can really see it when I put on my Wynton Marsalis CD.
He sits in rapt attention as Wynton slides from note to note almost effortlessly,
Creating a plethora of notes in harmony that seem neverending.
The sound of his horn fills the room with a warm glow
As my hot pepper plants sway with the effervescent beat.
Oh, it's a beautiful thing.

Watch his eyes.

In fact, put on any trumpet player and watch his eyes.
They give away his state of mind.

He likes Wynton.
You can tell he respects him as an artist, even if he doesn't always agree with his style.

He doesn't like Mangione,
Although he does enjoy "Children of Sanchez".
He's of the mind that the man sold out after he recorded "Feels So Good".

I'm inclined to agree with him.

As for the rest, he likes jazz fusion, but hates Kenny G.
He likes urban jazz, and is of two minds about Bela Fleck.

What he likes the best, though, is B.B. King.
   I think they're kindred spirits.

It's got to be paradise, you know.
   He's pampered,
He has every need taken care of,
      And practically every wish fulfilled.

And besides, it would be fitting were it true.
After all, what jazz musician doesn't want to come back as a cat?

*Marmilade (for those who haven't figured it out yet) is my cat. I have debated long and hard about whether to leave the name in the final draft, or change it to "my cat". After some careful consideration, I decided to keep the name. To me it makes it more personal. Hope you enjoyed it.

But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers is I'm the only one!

Good.  Although I can't help but notice that you have realy evolved into this jazz thing theme. Is this just a new fasination or has this been going on for awhile? Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against it. In fact I have been enjoying reading your stuff, I just can't help but notice a little theme running throughout all of your poems.

Guilty as charged, I'm afraid.

Yeah, I've entered kind of a jazz phase. It's really evoked a rather severe change in my poetry, as I'm leaning more towards the beat poetry of the mid-sixties, which I've been reading a good bit of lately.

I believe the most important component of a poem is rhythm. Rhythm is the heartbeat of a poem. It is what makes poetry poetry.
