Well, this is my first post on here. I hope to be a regular if things work out. I'm an old friend of Effigy--if any of you know him.

But without Further Ado!

            BE COOL

Quiet twisted thoughts
play origami though my head as
Miles Davis plays in the corner.

"Be Cool," he says.

            --Well
    Easy for him to say.

He never lived in a world with
        Electric Pocket Organizers
            and Digital CDMA phones.
It's a mad world and it's getting madder.

"Be Cool," he says.

What about DSL versus Cable Modems?
What about satellite versus cable tv?
            What about DVD versus VHS?

"Be Cool," he says.

How can you be so cool?

He turns.
  He smiles.

Then he puts that trumpet to his lips
and out comes a cascade of notes that
puzzles back the sphynx a decade or two.
He colors those notes magenta and mauve
while a six-toed cat purrs in Key West.
The cosmos sits on it's ear and I am still.

He smiles.

"Be Cool, Man. Be Cool."

Miles would be smiling at this one, it's cool, way cool. And you are right, he did play mauve notes that cascaded as well as any waterfall.
Welcome to Passions, I really enjoyed this unique, wonderful write!

Boggles my mind. I just learned something today. Did you know that Mauve is one of the most commonly mispronounced words in the English language? Most people pronounce it mawve, when it should be pronounced Mov, rhyming with "grove" or "stove". Check it out! Blew my mind!!
