Fear of Evil An alarm went off in a house, Not far from where I lay. The dogs started to bark And I began to pray. It was 4:45 am....dark, As I lay frozen in my bed. The only sound my thumping heart As fearful thoughts ran through my head. “What if the men come here? That group of 4 evil men. Men with hearts of stone Who’ve broken in to houses ten.” Why must I live in terror? Is nowhere safe anymore? There are many people at this moment, Out there breaking the law. You can’t escape evil, It lurks in every place. In every town, city and country, There is even plenty in Cyberspace. Will peace and goodwill Ever be offered to one and all? I am scared....really scared, When will it be my turn to fall? As I walk down any road , I could be murdered, abducted or raped. All I would be is another statistic, Victim of the man whose heart in evil is caped. I want to trust this world... But to trust is to invite so much bad. The world could be so beautiful, Instead it is really sad. There is nowhere for me to hide, I am at the mercy of mankind. Whatever I do the shadow of threat Follows me, I find. Nowhere to hide... I’ll only be safe when I’ve reached my grave. I’ll be safe when I have died. |

This poem is well written and sad, especially since it sounds like you fear to live life for fear of evil. I agree anything can happen to any of us at anytime, but if we walk in faith and have a good heart even if evil does strike us we will have walked a healthy mile and given God a reason to smile. |

A wonderfull poem. We all feel some of those things some of the time. Life can be scary, but only if you dwell on it. The media has a lot to answer for. They only ever show the negative side. May your roof never fall in and those beneath it never fall out. Irish proverb. |

If we live in fear all the time, wouldn't we miss out on the greatest gift ever ? Life itself ? Take a chance and live. Liked your poem a lot. |

Our society can be a very fearful place but it has always been so to one degree or another. Bad happens to everybody. Good happens to everybody. That's just the way life is. Take precautions for your safety and then try not to focus on what 'could' happen. It usually won't happen, so it does no good to dwell on it. Great poem! ESP, Great poem. I like this even if it's a little sad. Life is a risk, and sometimes it seems like there's nowhere to hide, but fortunately, the good out weighs the evil. ~Gene |

Fear is so paralizing and can rob us of even the smallest of pleasures. Your poem touches on something that is very common and you wrote it well. ...Give me the strength to walk the soft earth, a relative to all that is.... Black Eagle Oglala Sioux holy man |
