This creature she moves through the night, to feed her young her only quest. She needs to stay, alert and smart, to stay alive, her eyes shine bright. Her coat is slick, and smooth and clean; the ears, they pick up every sound. Her nose, will find the food she seeks. Unlike a cat she's never mean. The dogs they bark, she crouches down; afraid, she cowers to the ground. The owl swoops over, and she runs into the water, she won't drown. She climbs the trees so effortlessly, she's versatile, an acrobat is she. We trap and and shoot, malign and fear, this creature so, relentlessly. When all is said and done it's that, why are we so, afraid of her. She only wants to live her life, the simple life, of one small rat. Jack |

Wow, you just made me feel sorry for Rats...LOL Actually once where I was working they were in there eating the chamois clothes for waxing cars, and they were setting off the alarm every night so they had to put poison out and one day one was dying in the middle of the floor and I felt so sad, I wished I could save it as they threw it in the dumster out back |

Jack, although I have a little white mouse, rats have never been my favorite thing. You've made me look at them in a new way. Everything you said is true and you've actually made me feel something other than distaste for them. Good job. ...Give me the strength to walk the soft earth, a relative to all that is.... A great poem. You do make the rat sound better than they are painted..I still wouldn't want to spend a night in the sewers though...lol |

twinsgd--You've picked a very interesting topic here. I echo the sentiments of the others; you've certainly done justice to the rat. Kind of reminds of the story "Mrs. Frisbie and the Rats of Nymph".....that makes you look at them in a different light, too. Well done, my friend! Twinsgd, you are totaly right!! We all have a right to live on this earth, even the lowliest creatures!! And we all have are part. Can you imagine what would happen to the natural balance if we didn't have such "terrible" creatures as spiders, snakes, rats, mice, and mosquitos??¿ It's to bad humans have already destroyed most of the earth's balance!! peace, love, and harmony, Swamp Faeryie And there she weaves by night and day, a magic web of colours gay.~Tennyson |
