Mouth curved Smile spread throughout the room All of them wondering Who the stranger in red is She doesn't look the type With that delicate face, But that dress calls for glances Across the room While that demur smile entraps their senses. A strange combination of boldness And shyness. She must be an illusion. Capturing prey for that other world. Ordering simplicity While the bartender pours fresh intoxication Into a tall glass for her delicious lips. A smile and he gives it to her. A smile and she accepts it With a glimpse of awareness For its content and purpose. Crossing her legs forward Surveying the state of the room. Smoke rises seemingly, From the cracks between the floorboards, And cigarettes glow with angelic fire. Inhabitants relish their poisons As the fans stir the smoke. Pool tables glow with an eery welcome, Light cast on subjects All looking for some mystery here. Raising an amused eyebrow, She watches the man in the corner, Teaching the spirited and drunken woman, The politics of the game on the wooden table, Carefully demonstrating with her, The proper position for sinking the eight ball. Indeed she thinks... Easy prey swallows easy prey. Noticing glances and stares, She but takes it all in without a word. Thinking how the power of mystery Is best used with silence. Her lips passionately seize her stated drink, As she gives her keys to the tender Of the night. Getting drunk, but not careless, She remains faithful to the wordlessness. And they all look on. Eye contact to eye contact. Glance to glance. She crosses her legs and surveys the room. Intoxicated in dim light, Bathed in drifting curls of smoke, As she toys with the wedding band, On her small fingers. Contemplation sometimes seems far worse Does it not? Don't gain my affections and cover my eyes. In blindness I will only swing harder. |

this was a great poem temptress! i really liked the way you worded certain lines like: "ordering simplicity, while the bartender pours fresh intoxication", "cigarettes glow with angelic fire" and "she remains faithful to the wordlessness". Great job, and I look forward to reading more! "Be yourself... No matter what they say" - Sting |
