Yonder the last twilight Shining in the sky, Clouds chase down the sun now, My throat is feeling dry. The clinking of a glass here, And there amongst the din, Of patrons happy voices, As I cooly settle in. The whiff of a robusto, Can be perceived from far, A few of the nubilities, Then scurry from the bar. The flame ignites the cuban seed, The afternoon's first draw, Is always welcome discourse, To the silence of the thaw. The barmaid knows my poison, She gets the glass of Jack, And places it before me, "Hey glad to see you're back" Stirring in the lemon, The ice spills o'er the top, The first sip's always hardest, Except for when to stop. Night burns down the ashes, The glasses now are four, More thirsty for communion, Now pouring through the door. Some faces now familiar, But I’ve yet to learn the names, They all greet each other, And embark upon their games. 'Just people' I think to myself, Like friends you've known before, But inasmuch as they're the same, They're different all the more. To my right there is a ghost, And to my left I hear it, So many voices from the past, And I drink down my spirits. Across the bar I give a glance, A fancy lass is there, She sips her drink and laughs a lot, Avoiding my brief stare. They're all so young It seems to me, But then there's no place else To be. Still… Thirsty |

Great poem Lost Rebel....tell me please WHERE do you find the Cuban cigars? A soul that writes from the heart and shares it, truly gives a gift extraordinaire! Shannon |

I also missed this one the first time around, glad I caught it this time! Loved this. May I never be too busy to help another's load, Then I'll be drinking from the saucer 'cause my cup has overflowed. --Author Unknown |

Good poem! I'm too young to go in bars, though, but this seems like a pretty good "taste" of how it's like lol "Weird?! No, 'weird' is when you apply your human rules to where they shouldn't be applied. That's why it seems strange to you." --Ttark |

lol@norm.... thanks for all the positive affirmation and replies.... this really isn't what it may seem though. i wrote it last summer while i was on the road working nearly around the clock and drinking while i wasn't working... but, that's another poem.... |

I think I've a different perception then the others who've read and posted to your poem... It made me think of lonely nights while I was drinking trying to find a way to let go of the past.. *smiles* Still good though.. MAY THE ROAD RISE TO MEET YOU, MAY THE WIND BE ALWAYS AT YOUR BACK MAY THE SUN SHINE UPON YOUR FACE THE RAINS FALL SOFT UPON YOUR FIELDS AND, UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN, MAY GOD HOLD YOU IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND Irish Blessing |
