"time after time"

As daylight fades
the sun descends
across a blood red sea

quenching his fire
in the haven of her
infinite horizon

bold virility
blind virginity
never touching
merely seeming
to embrace

crimson sanctity
proffered ecstasy
never consummated
through their
union of illusion

As I stare beyond
the dark mirage
of this protracted night

I know that I am he
and you are she
forever damned
time after time
to tempt what cannot be

Your imagery is beautiful, though the message is sad. Sometimes it seems that what is meant to be does not happen. And yet, sun and sea would destroy each other if they ever really touched. (You should not get me thinking too much at this time of night.   ) I did enjoy reading this (several times, in fact).

To love another person is to see the face of God.

This is so lovely and so sad as well. I can relate to these feelings, just when we are so sure that we have found, finally, the one who is our soul-mate, life and reality intervene and it is somehow not to be.

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Thanks so much, dear friends for reading!
Joyce, such a beautiful thought, but I am so undeserving of it.
Ellie, I know what you mean, the story behind this one would have to be entitled: "Seven years in Tibet"! lol
Karilea, thanks for reading, I'm  at a loss for words.
Tara, What a wonderful compliment, I'm so glad you liked it

'tis a beautiful piece you have penned, Sir William Wallace would be proud to voice such poetic utterances!  And I mean it!

is the envy of my eye!

That sounds so beautiful.. such a magnificent illusion.. a shame.. it IS an illusion, isn't it.. how wonderfully you write it, coyote..

Wow I liked it....it started off fine but as it went along it just got better and better until a final blash of emotion at the end. I really really liked the end.
Well done friend!
