(( Songbird commented upon my poem Derelict....which planted the seed for this poem ))

See the antiques on her shelf
to her they are the same
today as once they were
upon the day she smiling came

Standing on the magic boat
that brought her cross the Sea
packed within her suitcase
heirlooms of family

She met a man and married
and as her babies grew
she bought new things to cherish love
though they wore out barely used

Her husband gone and babaies grown
and all the world has changed
silvered hair where fire was
a ' relic ' she became

And now she sits with memories
like the heirlooms on her shelf
" They don't make them like this anymore"
sweet old ' relics ' like herself.

Awww...beautiful Sol! I only hope, in my life, the cherished relics are as dear...

This is sweet, Sol. What a lovely comparison you have made.

This was sweet

Yep!  They don't make 'em like that anymore.  How ture... how true.  Liked the sentiment on this one.  Thanks for sharing.

It's sad that when a person gets older, they are often considered "relics"  You did a fine job with this.

Thanks..EVERYONE!!!...tis been so long since I was here...well for me anyway..*L*

like I said at the top..this was inspired by the comment that old widows were deemed " relics " in victorian times....
