Sometimes as I sit and stare at this empty screen, I wonder why me, What am I doing with a computer, when I can't hook up a vcr to my tv. But if the truth be known, I'm having the time of my life with this toy, At 71 years old, you'd think it's a waste, not so, it has brought me much joy. My children seemed to feel, that old pop needed this gadget for his fun, It was, and is, the last thing I would have thought of, but damn, it's a good one. I have spent hours, once I learned the knack, looking for old friends from the past, This things a gas, I guess I have come, although kicking, into the 20th century at last. Now this thing has a printer, for letters and such, I use it a lot, it's handy, I mentioned a scanner to my wife one day, next thing I know one arrives, a real dandy. Now I can send pictures , make copies of all kinds of stuff, I'm really up to date, I wonder what those kids will send me next, I guess I will just have to sit and wait. I have gotten hooked on this damn thing, seems each morning as I click on the switch, I have become a bit more dependent, on what's inside this modern son of a. I used to sit and have coffee, read the paper and learn the news of the day, Now I sit in front of a screen, click my finger and read what the computer has to say. Now life may be getting a bit to modern for me, see I was raised when times were tough, It was many years before I could see, and understand, that we just didn't have enough. So as I look upon this world we have today, I see many things that bring us great joy, But it's hard to understand, life's complicated now, not simple, as when I was a boy. I'm not saying I want to go back, although there is a lot to be said about those days, There are way to damn many people in this land, they couldn't take the old ways. And there are other things to consider, people are healthier, babies are lots cuter, I know one thing that would be a, when I got up each morning, I'd sure miss my computer. This was so much fun to read and so true! What would we do without the computer that we have grown to depend on? In some ways the world has grown smaller now that it can be brought inside our own homes! Good for you, for keeping up with the times and being a part of it instead of just passively watching a tv screen! |

Hi Bill, Good to see you again. I can identify with this as I'm sure everyone can. It's a love /hate relationship with my computer. Gene |

Bill; This sure was a terrific read! I have grown in my creativity as a poet, been blessed with the most wonderful friends here, and am having the best fun ever! I love this darn thing! Ellie A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |

It's an addiction, or several of them - computer, online friends, poetry. It's hard to remember what we did before. I enjoyed this, Bill. To love another person is to see the face of God. - Les Miserables Marilyn |
