Did I expect < !signature-->perfection? As if such a thing, ever did exist. Why such expectations, when I am imperfection. Ilness comes in many colors of gray. Is this one my cross, or gift..? choices.. To remain mired in dissapointment, and self-pity... or grow to learn that love is only love, with no expectations, and only real if unconditional. This choice is mine, and love the braver choice. Belief is a truth held in the mind; faith is a fire in the heart. Oh the expectations of love! Who puts them in our mind anyway. I hear the agony of struggling with living in an imperfect world, as an imperfect being- yet seeking the best qualities of the best and most enduring thing of all--Love. And I appreciate the realism here. Love is NOT that all rosy thing, unless of course you count the thorns as well. But the emphasis of Love is not in the perfection of it in receiving- but the perfecting of it in the giving--and the acceptance of it to whatever degree, it comes- be thankful-or as you say-Unconditional love! Thank you for a most worthy sharing of your Heart, David [This message has been edited by deleeme (edited 12-28-2000).] |

Ellie, You have delved deep into attitudes regarding love, what is reasonable and what is unrealistic. Once again your wisdom gained by your experiences and maturity shines brightly, though meshed with pain. Loves' unrealistic expectations only leaves room for disappointment. Thoughtful poem here! This is a very introspective, thoughtful and thought-provoking poem, Ellie. We grow up on tales of happily ever after, and reality can be a shock. Nevertheless, love is not only the braver choice, but the better one, and I think you have made that choice. Thanks for sharing this.
