My words circle over and around me
brick wall of protection
barrier of mind
broach me not there is nothing there
just a hollow-eye stare
that carefully hides the emptiness within
known only to those that truly see.

I recite my precisely chosen words
on the lonely stage of life as
you begin to mechanically clap before I even speak
across the sea of restless seats
echoes the sounds of silence
as my voice is not heard
did I expect anything else with my foolish endeavors
when I jumped into this world not mine
did I expect my voice to ripple the dark void of night
to slowly sink deep in quicksand waves
of overwhelming words that slowly surge to
futilely knock on stone revetments of closed minds.

Oh, foolish woman, why do you even weep
as you stand there open-mouth to speak
one last time you sing your lonely song
on the dark, empty stage of a mind that aches
to spiral up with a gasp for the last flame
of the darkening sun of night . . .
and the lights go out
one-by-one

powerful and strangely beautiful..very nice work..

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

You sound so disillusioned here!  I hope you don't really feel unheard.  You have such a powerful voice!  This is very nice writing.

I could so relate to the lonely pain in this beautiful poem. I felt this way for years, until I discovered that my voice and my words were lovely whether heard or not..Ellie

kcsgrandma, disillusioned...perhaps at the time, although that wasn't the original intent of the poem.  This was written, several months ago, all I really remember is that it started out with a different intent and I ended up with this...lol, that happen a lot with my words.

Now I know, I just have to remind myself who I write for...mostly myself, family & friends; therefor no more disillusionment.

ellie, thanks for sharing your thoughts

peg & Swamp¤Faeryie, thanks for the read and your kind words.
