I don't know about the rest, but the English comes through great. Great words. Jamie Tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito. - Virgil. "Yield thou not to adversity, but press on the more bravely". |

I only know three languages, that's English, bad English, and Driigaran (dragon language! ) But I think the mix is great here, even if I can't understand the literal translation, the meaning is, well, saareiooh (that's as close as Roman letters will take it, rough translation: clear, straight and undiluted). Prometheus - Thank you. All of the different languages say "I love you." I had a specific reason for choosing each language, but frankly only speak English and Spanish, and understand a little French and German. Little Spyro - LOL about the bad English, but thanks for the lesson in Driigaran (I love new words!)and thank you very much for your kind comments. Pegasus - Thanks for the belief and your own sweet words. Wordancer - Thank you. I appreciate the kind comments from a talented lady. Goodness!!! I am impressed! So many languages and I could only master Spanish and English...okay, not master, but get my point across by the end of the day! Jamie - Thanks. Love is a very great emotion. And thank you for your applause. In fact, I got several of the languages from a web site that has many pages of ways to say I love you in different languages. I just had to pick what I wanted. Hi, Kaile. Chuckle, eh? Well, the reasons are really quite simple. The Gujarati is the mother tongue of the person it was written to, French is one of my learned languages, Scots Gaelic is part of my heritage, Hindi is because his family was involved in Hindi film, German is also part of my heritage, Spanish is another of my acquired languages, and English, of course, we share. Besides, it's nice to have lots of ways to say "I love you", isn't it? Hope that satisfies your curiousity. Best - Thanks. That comment brightened my day, too. Kaile - You are welcome! Yes, that was the idea, to use languages that had some meaning to the people involved. I have a Malay friend in Singapore whose girlfriend is Chinese, and I can imagine those languages you mentioned would be very appropriate there. Ellie - Thank you. No matter where we are from, what we look like, or how we say it, we are all brothers and sisters, aren't we? A wonderful Christmas to you and yours, too! Maria - Yup, that's right. They are just different ways of expressing a full heart. Thanks, and Merry Christmas. To love another person is to see the face of God. - Les Miserables Marilyn |

Wo ai ni Saya cinta kamu love strikes heartstrings tugged void filled desires renewed why should love pose any problems at all when its recipients are of ALAS! different skin colours? kcs, i read your comment with interest...lets just say that it is rather difficult to make a relationship work in spore when the two are from different races... |

Kaile, that is lovely, but now you have to explain what language(s) and what it means! I gathered from my friend in Singapore that the biracial relationship is difficult. I imagine that can be true anywhere. And it's not only skin color - it's cultural differences. I'm a great believer that love can overcome great obstacles though. I certainly hope so! Thanks for the explanation, Kaile. I love new words, in any language! I'm surprised the sentence structure is the same as in English. Is that normally so in these languages?< !signature--> To love another person is to see the face of God. - Les Miserables Marilyn [This message has been edited by kcsgrandma (edited 12-26-2000).] |

i am not very familiar with malay but for mandarin, the sentence structure does share similarities with english..though english may be confusing with its present, past, future, past perfect tenses, mandarin(thankfully) lacks such distinction....we use "jing tian" to mean today and "ming tian" to mean tomorrow...therefore tenses are not to be found in mandarin.... |

Thanks, Kaile. Interesting stuff. I have heard that Mandarin is very hard to learn. I guess it must be something other than tenses that makes it that way. Glad to know I wouldn't have to learn verb conjugations though. To love another person is to see the face of God. - Les Miserables Marilyn |
