The mask took many years to perfect a true artisan labored long and well crafted with the finest ingredients it covers completely without flaws no one suspects the subtrafuge the deception is complete, perfect in every respect the wearer is safely hidden from his enemies and friends alike secure in the knowledge of his invisibility the price has been high but he has paid it willingly protection the priority above all from the deception of predators the weakness of casual relationships the searing pain of defeated love the boredom of well meaning misfits the prying eyes of neighbors the puzzled stares of superiors the questions of family now fear begins to surface as the mask begins to show it’s age like all things manufactured it begins to wear cracks appear and deepen slowly it begins to dissolve they will see him now as he is beneath the mask that has been his companion his safety net from the world and he is afraid the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost |

It saddens me to think it, but I know it happens all the time...masks, barriers, wall or whatever you want to call them, break, crack, and wither with weakness when worn too long. Rebuilding in a natural part of living, a day to day experience. The idea behind this, though it probably missed me at light speed, backs the poem up beautifully. |

This was written very well, in essense it says it was fear that made me put the mask on and with fear I will take it off. We can never know freedom till without the mask we are OK! Enjoyed reading it. |

A truly insightful poem...to finally stand stripped of all pretense is a frightening thing...to finally accept and love thyself...is glorous freedom and joy! Belief is a truth held in the mind; faith is a fire in the heart. Joseph Fort Newton |
