Octobers’ winds have left their mark
Upon my cold and bitten skin
The tempest on the high seas roar
But I am warm and safe within

At peace I sit within my room
My thoughts are racing back to you
The walls encase me like a tomb
To sit and dream is what I’ll do

The raindrops on the window pain
Running tears of stranded souls
Who never will return …..again
To taste the warmth of home fire coals

The sailor who is lost at sea
And lashed against the bending mast
His family no more a thing for he
Whose life is to the seabed cast

Some poor souls accursed by bars
A chain and key their only clock
How’d they like to touch the stars?
Or sit beside the deep calm loch

The soldier fights the lonely war
Blood and deaths the victories gain
The futility of what…….. he saw
His solitude adds to the pain

The destitute upon life’s way
In cardboard bed and dirty clothes
What he’d give for warmth this day
To give up on this life he ..Loathes

It is quite true as I sit here
Alone and cut off from what I love
Its would be easy now to shed a tear
And wear my sadness like a glove

But a joy not dread fills up my mind
You see your memory sings to me
There are so few people of your kind
And with this thought my heart is free

When the day is here I’d quickly dive
Would swim the seas of roaring foam
For only then will I feel alive
When I am there with you ………at home

Jon, when you write like this...as I read, I think, how could he know all this, yet in all this he knows. This is the type I prefer to read with my coffee on the porch swing. Well, if you haven't guessed, I think this is GREAT!! Wonderful writing and did you have a sip of tea or two?    Marcy

This is lovely, as always, Jon.  Glad you popped in for a visit.

Jon,
This is really lovely. I can read this over and over, and not grow weary of reading.

You are very expressive, showing the lonely souls on both ends, while safe with the one you love. Like it.

Jon,
This is a terrific view of lives spent and misspent in the folly of LIFE and those things which seperate us from the things we love. I like your attitude to rejoice in your treasured memories rather than pity yourself for something that you didn't posess right now! YOU are a Master story teller, my friend!

Dear Jon; you are missed here at the pub. This poem, so beautifully written, so conveys your loneliness for home on your trip to England and your profound gratitude for the gifts of home and hearth that God has given you. Ellie
