In stealth along the hedgerow stave
Stopping life and fly and bee
His fingers point to winters grave
For all of summers wealth you see

Causing shadows of mottled death
To strangle hope of flowers bud
Watching now with foggy breath
The pond lies still with frozen blood

In crystalline white with stark mosaic
He shatters all who would withstand
His icy goal their life……. to take
And crush it in his ………..frozen hand

Along the land this shadow creeps
And goes about his daily curse
For springtime warmth the willow weeps
And freedom from this winters perse

All life it seems is dropped aside
To hibernate in silent fear
To be crushed in death upon this tide
To cry in woe a frozen tear

But among the carnage now alight
In fiery red with promise new
The gentle warmth of pure sunlight
In April bids our friend……Adieu!

Wow! Jon; You've brought the Grim Reeper alive (or is it dead), and penned a halloween tale of chilling analogy that is truly unique. Amazing how diverse and gifted you are! Thank you for your encouraging replies to my poem, "110 degrees" - wow! I guess this chilling poem gets 110 below zero,
that counts as perfectly terrific too! Ellie

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.

This is really cool, Jon!  I don't get freaked out easily...but you managed to do it for me..maybe it has something to do with today being....Friday the 13th?

I enjoyed reading this, Jon, very much, but find it interesting that I saw something different here.  I was just seeing it as winter's grip on the earth, followed by new life in the spring.     Guess that makes it multileveled.  Good for you!
