Protest Song (We're All Wasted) |

This is very loosely based on my thoughts while listening to two Who songs--"Baba O'Riley" (which is where the "We're All Wasted" part of the title comes from) and "Won't Get Fooled Again." It's basically the whole idea of becoming disillusioned with a cause or a revolution...hope you like it. Another revolution comes and goes, And protest songs abound. The cynics sit in the cafes And laugh at the bleeding hearts Caught up in the sway of things. Another war against atrocity, Which in turn spurs on its own set of tortures, Each more horrific than the last. The optimists hang from the gallows And talk of how this time, Everything will work out better. Carrion crows perch on high-tension wires, Eyeing the coming feast. Carnage runs rampant again, And finally we say "enough is enough" And return to the status quo. Once more, we turn to each other, Promising we won't get fooled again, And then we're caught up in the chaos Once again. "If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing." --Kingsley Amis |

Hmm...Definitely thought provoking. I like it a lot! With a little piece of tomorrow, You'll have to kiss yesterday goodbye. Because today won't last forever, And the past will only make you cry. |

Won't get fooled again hey........well that's been said loads of times.....and still we are...... How many times as a Dictator been overthrown only to be replaced by another one from the ranks of the people doing the over throwing? Revolution's a two bladed sword I think. Your poem highlights this well Jon You don't need a weather man to know which way the wind blows. |

The saddest thing is, we really do think that each time, this revolution will turn out differently, that this time everything will work out for the best, that maybe this ruler won't be a tyrant...and naturally, we're always wrong. This is great, and I love then end: "Once more, we turn to each other, Promising we won't get fooled again, And then we're caught up in the chaos Once again." |

Glad you liked it. If only society weren't so gulible and prone to falling into the trap of false revolution. "If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing." --Kingsley Amis |

Very well written! Yes, people tend to be fooled quite easily, it's true. Sad but true. Denise |

Excellent poem, you did a great job expressing the traps we seem to always fall into, but yet we're all still here hoping tomorrow will be better. |

I remember the 60's (well sort of) and even with all the crap it's nice to know that hope springs eternal. I keep hoping for it to get better anyways. How can you save me? When the dark comes right in and takes me, from my front walk and into bed, where it kisses my face and eats my head. Shivaree |

Yeah...I wish I'd been alive for the '60s...I get the sincere feeling that I was born in the wrong decade. "If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing." --Kingsley Amis |
