an old prize--
once treasured
now dusty and crumpled
a corner ornament
a cobweb collector
perhaps, one day
to be sold at a lawn sale
for a cheap price...
or put in storage
in the bleek
dark
depths
of a beaten box...
a slow death
a descent from glory
an old prize--
once recieved
with open arms...

This is too sad that someone would feel this way (I hope you don't).

I would rather think of the old prize as a treasured antique valued for it how it was superiorly and uniquely crafted.  It's value is 100 times what was originally paid for it and it will be passed down through generations.

I just read a novel called 'Relics' about an old man who was already quite aged in his day...then finds himself eighty years in the future...and he was so good at fixing things and making things work in his time, but in the future he only gets in the way, always seeking for his own usefulness...

Yes, it's sad, and too many elderly people go through much the same torture (most go through it without the time-travel aspect, though)...

For all those people, I hope they find what they're looking for.

Yet another great work from dg!

Dg,
This sounds like a treasure that needs to be rediscovered and cherished as it once was!
Sometime we find old friends forgotten and we reclaim them and hold them all the closer so they don't slip away again. Thoughtful work here.
