The sunlight dims, fades, and goes away Your slippers are snug, so long good day The fire place is warm, but the books not so hot You only bought it yesterday, so give it a shot Leather squeaks noisily on the silent evening air As you wrestle the reading specs out of thinning hair The maid is in her quarters, the wife retired too Now its just the chair, a boring book, and you Reflections of youth fly back like passing styles All the fun that was had lit a thousand flashy smiles There's Tom, that kid you met years back in school He didn't make it with the ladies, but you thought he was cool As the smile washes serenely over your face You put down the book, it wasn't keeping pace Anyhow the cheap wine needed tending And these stupid classes keep on bending You embark on a laborous journey to the fridge There's the cake, you really shouldn't, ah whats a smidge A red filled glass in hand, to the chair you return Sipping gingerly, and lazily watching the fire burn Old times rush back once more with half the glass And you snicker like a kid who sneaks out of class Ah, that time over at whatshisnames place You don't remember much, other than you killing the case Man, that was rich, but time moves against will Wasn't it funny when the tab was so high we couldn't pay the bill! Phew we barely got out of that place alive, you think A you're smiling at the bottom of the glass after the last drink Those slippers nice and tight, but the dogs want sleep Oh yeah, almost forgot about the wife, can't make a peep You stumble quite awkwardly ascending the stairs Was it just one glass....maybe it was pairs Who knows, but its time for bed Put away your thoughts, and rest your head Goodnight Tom, you think, if you're still around Hope you're doin' better with those women in town Thankyou barkeep for just kicking me out And my wife of many years who I love no doubt Goodnight slippers warm and cozy you are Rest here by the bed now, don't go too far Sleepily now you rest into dream This is my simple life, atleast I like the theme |
