Somewhere... out there...

This was written after the '89 San Francisco earthquake, where several people died when the freeways collapsed on top of them.

coffins of cold crushed metal
lying in asphalt tombs
in a moment of chaos
dreams were shattered-
bodies were broken-
lives snatched away

'tis cold here
in this concrete graveyard
no headstones
mark the graves
no prayer was said
no song was sung
no last respects were paid

buried alive...

Very well written. I can't believe it was that long ago...seems like just a couple of years ago.

Vicky,
The sorrow captured us all as that freeway collapsed, and it has all suddenly been returned to me.  Well done.

as one who traveled that particualr section of the Nimitz several times a day...this is especially poignant. I always thought about
the freeway collapsing every time i drove
through that part of Beserkly.
Definatly one of those  "where were you/day
of history" kinda events.
Well done, vicky!
