Poets Note: This poem is written from the perspective of the mother of a fourteen year old son who died in a drunk driving accident... ---------------------- I wish you were here, your laughter, your joy, made you seem like a little boy. But instead you lost it all to beer. I wish you were there, to see that brilliant flash of light, to witness; the moaning and groaning, of the other drivers plight. I wish you were here, to see me go insane, as you writhed and died, of unspeakable pain. I wish you were here, to blow out your candles, to have a piece of cake, I wish you were here, my fifteen year old son...for memory's sake |

if written for your son {{hugs}} and if for another I send them to her...and for all who drink no matter if a drop or a lot, I wish for them to understand how dangerous a vehicle and drinking are when mixed...take it from one who has been frightened for years of the consequences of the possibility of such happening... touched~ Maureen |

This poem does deserve to be up a little longer...in order for us to learn a lesson, that drinking+driving don't mix. --Little Girl |

though it wasn't my brother's fault...he was killed by a driver...whether that driver was drunk is debateable...but my mother suffered deeply, as we all did, he was the youngest of us...so i see this pain in my mom's eyes. Whether your the unfortunate victim of a dwi or a drinker, this serves to send a message. |

Some of us out here know better than to drink and drive...*winces* Got parking tickets to show my vehicle was parked till I sobered up... $40 worth..ouch..but still a lot cheaper then getting pulled over or in a wreck...I wish more people would understand that... Very good poem.. ![]() With a little piece of tomorrow, You'll have to kiss yesterday goodbye. Because today won't last forever, And the past will only make you cry. |

Though he's not here he's never alone, for the angels sing him a brand new song each day. They light him a candle to show him the way, as he remembers his mom, and all his childhood days. As the candle is lit, he hopes and prays to see her light one too someday. Deb |

LittleGirl~ This is so poignant a piece. I can tell you from firsthand experience what it's like to lose a loved one to the selfishness of a drunken driver's actions. My youngest brother was killed in 1980 by the direct actions of an irresponsible, selfish drunken driver. While we all suffered losing him, the sorrow of our mother was so hard to watch. For 15 years, until her own death, she suffered the loss of that son. No parent should have to suffer this loss. The horror of hearing how my brother died lives with me to this very day. Until we get society to adhere to a ZERO TOLERANCE the selfishness will continue. As for the drunk driver who took my brother's life ... God will have to forgive him ... for I cannot ! Thank you so much for posting this. I hope you continue to fight the battle against driving drunk. Bless you. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

ALG ~ You have taken a tough topic to write of and done a wonderful job of it. I doubt there are many that haven't been affected by this in one way or another, and it is something that one never forgets...As Marge said, zero tolerance is the only thing that may help. My deepest sympathies to all who have lost loved ones because of anothers foolish behavior. Bonnie |
