What I want
Is to be recognized
For all that I do
Is too much to ask
For a pat on the back
Or a "good job."?
Tell me I'm a good person
Tell me I'm important
Tell me NOW not LATER
Before my life ends
And I have spent it all in shame,
All in sulk,
All in waiting for the next day to come
Wasting it all away
Just waiting for that compliment to come.
So, tell me now...
What I want
Is to just be recognized.

I can relate to this Joy. So many times in life I have felt that not too many people cared (except family of course)what I achieved or tried to achieve. I often felt that way in work. Sometimes it's just a mood I may have been in, sometimes it was time for a change. Wonderful poem, Joy. You have expressed the feeling of not being appreciated very well!

Never feel you are unappreciated because there is always someone who knows and appreciates what you do even if it's not shown immediately. Some people just don't know how to express the feeling but deep down inside know they feel it, I say this cause I know people like this and at times I feel they don't appreciate all I try to do, but I know deep in my heart they do, they just can't express it yet.

I loved you poem, and think you are very talented, never give up keep on trying cause every step is towards a goal.

Hey Joy, I love your poetry!! And you!! If there are any of your poems that I did not reply to, I am sorry! Don't feel unappreciated...there is always at least one person who does appreciate you. Thanks all. I'm surprised I'm still getting responces to this one. When I wrote this a few months ago, I was feeling low and unapreciated, but I know deep down that the people who love me and care about me do appreciate everything I do and just being myself. So thanks for all your kind words, because that just gives me more of a reason to keep on going!
