The shudder of light on my mirror glides slowly into my room, illuminating the specs of dust as stars drifting through infinite space. The shadows shift playfully to accommodate the passive morning. I turn from dreams preserved as brief flashes and emotions of no real clarity. Their images, that could have enlightened, are lost as I first open my eyes. I move meekly, not sure of this place; so alien and fascinating. I try, with no success, to suppress my will to consume every new detail. All these objects are strangers in need of introduction. I climb rather clumsily over my barrier into this new world, thankfully unaware that in coming years this special magic, this awe, that fuels me with be snuffed out with the disdain of familiarity ------------------------ "I've been too honest with myself I should have lied like everybody else"-Richey Edwards "Take nothing but pictures. brian; Wonderful piece you have written. I enjoyed the read. ", this awe, that fuels me with be snuffed out with the disdain of familiarity" This sounds like a familiar feeling then Jesus sends us a blessing, refueling us, to be refreshed again. Thank you for this reminder, hang on until in safe harbour. Blessings to you, my friend. marcy |

Thanks to you for reading and for your wonderful responses. I still think that the adult world/society steals children's innocence too early, we forget about the magic of childhood. I read this quote sometime later after writing the poem. I think it sums up what I was trying to say in the poem, though I have a more optimistic view on life. "The only perfect circle on the human body is the eye. When a baby is born it's so perfect, but when it opens its eyes it's just blinded by the corruption and everything else is a downward spiral". Kill nothing but time". What a wonderful poem indeed ! I fully agree...we lose the gift of 'seeing through the eyes of a child' far too soon. Very well written Brian. |

I agree with Jon (again) and this line: "Their images, that could have enlightened, are lost as I first open my eyes." speaks to me. I try so hard to hang on to those dreams that are solutions, answers to dilemas. I once went to bed all frustrated because I couldn't solve a calculus problem (assignment due the following morning). I dreamed I solved it, and when I woke up I wrote down what the dream solution was. It WAS the solution! I have so much faith in those solutions that come from dreams, but it's so hard to hang on to them sometimes. Good poem. I hope "this special magic, this awe, that fuels me will be snuffed out with the disdain of familiarity" is still a long, long way off! |

oh man, I almost missed this one... hey you.. ya know ya gotta lead me to em when my blind mind dont find em ok--OK this is so damn good Bri... such depth..as always... so many truths in it as well wise you are my poetic prophet later gator eve ~BEFORE THE DELUGE~ Some of them were dreamers, some of them were fools Who were making plans and thinking of the future ***With the energy of the innocent,*** they were gathering the tools They would need to make their journey back to nature While the sand slipped through the opening And their hands reached for the golden ring With their hearts they turned to each other's hearts for refuge In the troubled years that came before the deluge Some of them new pleasure, some of them knew pain And for some of them it was only the moment that mattered ***And on the brave and crazy wings of youth They went flying around in the rain And their feathers once so fine grew torn and tattered*** And in the end, they traded their tired wings ***For the resignation that living brings *** And exchanged love's bright and fragile glow for the glitter and the rouge And in the moment they were swept before the deluge.
