Is there one with soul so dead The creeping dawn he doesn’t cherish With eyes so dark and clouded grey In his view the sunsets ……perish When he sees the spider gay Alight it’s dewy weave Will not the bunting of the rose Bid his sorrows leave Will not the white and dashing cloud Bring his voice to song Have his thoughts on saddened things Been dwelling far to long Can’t he watch the diving Swift? It’s joy of summer bright Soft caress his sodden thoughts And bring his heart to flight Cannot the trickling of the brook Cast in him a dream Or the butterfly upon its wing Impress on him the theme Does not the chatter of the leaves While talking to the grass The gentle partner to his soul This freedom does it pass As I sit among these ruins This sadness in my head Tell me if you kindly will Of a one with soul so dead Jon Mewett Hi Everyone Well I'm back from my travels. This time I visited Dresden in the former East Germany. That city still carries the scars of war, with buildings still raised to the ground. This small somewhat futile poem was written while I sat on the West side of the Berlin Wall my thoughts still on the sights of Dresden. The whole experience was incongruous to me. It seemed to make me feel inadequate and small. Jon [This message has been edited by Jon Mewett (edited 06-01-2000).] |

Jon, a haunting image you have painted here. I see you didn't slack off on your talents while away. Welcome back. "Is there one with soul so dead The creeping dawn he doesn't cherish..." |

OOOOOH!! Jon your poetry is SO good!! I always know that it will be good as soon as i start reading!! This is wonderful....i especially like "When he sees the spider gay Alight it’s dewy weave Will not the bunting of the rose Bid his sorrows leave" that is so great!! The touch of melancholy is a the perfect thread for this all to ride on. AWESOME!! swampie swampola And there she weaves by night and day, a magic web of colours gay.~Tennyson |

It sounds as if you latched on to the remaining energy of one (or many) imprisoned behind the Berlin Wall. Good poem, thoughtful analysis of the effects of freedoms' lost. |

jon..a little gloom..a little doom...but really great reading--great writing! ![]() cant help but wonder sometimes if too much thought on saddened things can cause saddness to become a permanent fixture.. "Will not the white and dashing cloud Bring his voice to song Have his thoughts on saddened things Been dwelling far to long" "A Poet's life is on written page; a scenario to take the stage--watch..." dgvarner |

Well thanx everyone for the welcome back. I find it most difficult to understand Mans inhumanity to Man. But there was hope, the peoples spirit, they were so kind and friendly. I did find it spiritualy very disturbing, the monuments and everything, very wierd. Jon |
