To hurry down the bustling street
Fleet of foot… to float on air
Rushing to my dearest…..meet
Slip in florist……..open there

The tulip stands with head aloft
Resplendent in it’s charging red
A whistling happy tune is doft
As four I pick and put to bed

Carnations sweet and scented well
I tuck them in…... in fine array
The small pink petals proudly swell
Sunbeams on a sunny day

The freesia with its heady musk
In dappled colours lying there
Reminds me of a summers dusk
I straighten them with every care

The bold white Lilly trumpets out
With dewy tear upon it’s stem
I’m beautiful it wants to shout
I have no doubt …six of them

And then at last the thorn less rose
I gently lay them centre stage
A dozen scarlet ones I chose
And wrapped them all in crinkly cage

A simple message neatly penned
Upon the small white greeting card
Words of love I swiftly rend
It came so quick it wasn’t hard

This bouquet now I wrap in love
Or my fumbling fingers try to do
Tis for my angel from above
With simple words  ‘I love you’

What a wonderful poem Jon!! I love it all the way through!! Especially the way to describe the flowers so well...each with it's own.......personality. I like the way you describe the Lily in particular, they are a little vain aren't they ;]
This is a VERY sweet and very good poem, looking forward to reading some more.

This bouquet, so lovingly described, would be a welcome present on it's own.  I can smell the roses and the peppery fragrance of the carnations.  Heady!
