Daddy's Day

On this one day we brought to you
A fancy cake, a tie or two.
You gave three sixty four to us,
But always said we shouldn't fuss,
Nor waste our cash upon our dad.
We'd see you looking at an ad
For fishing tackle or a pole.
A wish you would not tell a soul.
We'd pool our money and would buy.
The special gift that caught your eye.
Each child of yours knew he'd been blessed
With better dad than all the rest.
We knew we'd never do enough
For he who in good times or tough,
Worked hard to make our lives a joy,
Earned the love of each girl and boy
By always putting himself last.
I wish I could recall the past.
Now when money is not so tight
It could be possible you might
Buy what you never could afford,
That shiny, beautiful new Ford.

Daddy, you've gone to your reward,
A goal we are still working toward.
In Heaven, Daddy, I know that you
Are doing what you used to do,
Still protecting your loved seven;
Guiding us to you and Heaven.

Joyce:  a wonderful poem about a wonderful Dad!  What great memories you have.  He would be so proud of you and your gift of poetry.  Perhaps he is reading it from Heaven!

Joyce,

Thank you.  I enjoyed reading about your fond Father's Day memories.  I'm sitting here ready for church in my "Sponge Bob Square Pants" T-shirt that I have just received from my children for Father's Day and I'm wondering how on earth they figured it out?  (laughs.)  I guess it's just family intuition.  Again thank you for sharing some very fond memories that you've had and I hope that you have a blessed Father's Day.

-Bob

Joyce~
Some lovely, lovely memories wrapped up in this tribute to your Dad~

Reminded me of us kids saving our money in a jar (kept in Dad's very own footlocker)... to buy our father a jacket from J.C. Penny's~
The jacket cost $12.98 ... and we thought we'd NEVER get enough to buy it~
Then just before Father's Day ... we took the jar out and counted the money ... why, we had JUST ENOUGH~

Took us years to figure out that we really only had put about $8.00 in ... and our father had put the rest in~
We were blessed with some loving memories ... he was taken from us way too soon, at the age of only 39.
Each memory is a treasure~

Thank you for sharing this~
*Hugs*
