I've been watching for them eagerly, So why am I surprised to see, My swallows have returned to me? With swoop and glide they find their home, The one I promised in my poem, I'd guard with ardor, while they roam. Have they been far across the sea, And did they ever think of me, In winter's cold captivity? What radar brought them back to where, Their future nest was waiting here? Or did they need a Hand to steer? They know just when the time is right, For them to start their homeward flight. They fly in daytime, rest at night. Does God's voice guide them on the way? Does He show them where it's safe to stay? Who tells them it's the month of May? While they have been in warmer clime, I've waited here, biding my time; 'Til I could welcome them in rhyme. So welcome to you little friends, Although this sojourn too, will end, Some happy times we'll have to spend. I'll watch you raise your little brood, Flying back and forth with food. You know I'd help you if I could. I know the rules now, and the score. You'll leave your nest above my door, And fly away from me once more. But you've given me your promise true. You will return, I'll wait for you. By Joyce Johnson May 12,2001 |

This is so beautiful. I am awed by your images. "so when at times the mob is swayed to carry praise or blame too far, we may choose something like a star" --Frost |

Enjoyed this one very much. Me and my wife just went camping and the birds were so enjoyable (as was your poem). Stephen. |

Thanks everyone. I am surrounded by birds in my yard. They scold me if I come out to work. But I do love them. Joyce |

Joyce, Swollows remind me of the Lord; How we will fly with one accord Back to the one that we've adored. Swollowed up in God's ecstasy, We'll be just like those birds you see Flying home to Eternity. Joyce, I am a little bit jellous in that all that I have where I live is crows and pigions.... I call them Caw-caw birds and Cue-cue birds, but this is much more than I'm sure you wanted to know. Great poem and challenge well met. Bob <>< |
