A child is not a possession,
He's a loan from our God above;
Placed in our hands for guidance
With the loosely held reins of love.

Harshness is never the answer,
A child learns from what he is shown.
He needs care and gentle patience,
From baby until he is grown.

We may give him the necessities
To keep his growing body whole;
Still we've neglected our duty
If we haven't cared for his soul.

Loving is what he will thirst for,
From us and the Father above.
To find his way to salvation, he
Must be guided that way with our love.

Joyce:  Such a caring poem!  I always have said that the hardest thing we do in life is being a good parent.

Joyce~
The greatest joy in my life has been to love a child.
I have been blessed four times with children of my own to love ~
but I love the adoring reaches of any child.
Thank you for sharing this.

Loving a child is certainly a poem to be written in the stars for today's and future generations to look up and behold.  I believe what you have written to be the greatest gift that we can share with our children..... and I believe it also is the greatest gift that God gives to us as His.  Love.   Bob <><

Joyce, The Lord knows where to lead us and this is what I needed to hear today. I have issues I am dealing with, and I know this poem was meant as a reminder to all.
Thank you for allowing God to use you in your writing.

This one ought to be framed and hung where everyone can see it!! I LOVE IT!

"Train up a child in the way he should go, and he shall not depart from it."

This is terrific Joyce. If you don't mind, I think I just might frame this one, and hang it up to be a constant reminder.
