The forest with it's cool retreats,
It's bubbling brook and mossy seats,
Enchanted me one April day
And so I quickly stole away,
To spend an hour wandering
And listening to the wild birds sing.
Then suddenly, above my head,
I heard a voice, but what it said,
Was muted by the woodland breeze
And rustling of the many trees.
I stood to look and there on high,
A group of angels floated by.
Their beauty stunned me as I saw
These perfect creatures without flaw.
Their snowy wings and flowing hair,
Their pastel robes and faces fair,
Were such an awesome sight to me.
Their voices calling joyfully,
They drifted off into the sky,
Where unexplored horizons lie.
How long I waited, vision bleared,
From staring where they disappeared,
I'll never know, but shadows deep,
Had filled the woods.  Was I asleep?

This is beautiful.  How many times they are close by and we don't see them.  Joyce

Excellent!  The meter in this piece is outstanding, you made it flow simply wonderfully.
This is the first poem from Spiritual to enter my private library.  Very well done!
