Tears of Pain and Hatred blinding my way,
With burning eyes I fall astray.

Through the haze and darkness
You put your hand out to me,
But I turned away
Because I thought I knew a better way.

I lost you as a result, forever that day.

***

Fallen to the ground, with tears streaming from my eyes,
For months the pool has grown in this filth where I cry,
Finally I open my eyes tired of all the pain..

What is this vile beast before me?
And it mocks me, mimicking what I do,
Until I realize,
Looking into this Pool of my own filth,
that it is me who is the fool:
I see the true reflection of who I am.
-- And this terrifies my soul.

***

My fist beat the water,
my Reflection Laughs in silence
as I cry,
I have hit my bottom,
I can no longer live like this,
Drowning in a pool of my own hatred and piss.

I will climb out of this pool,
And shake myself off,
I must Wipe the filth from my face,
And let out a few coughs.

I realize that I must let go of my past,
If I am to embrace the future,
I must give up old habits and ways,
Also people and friends that make me go astray.

I have let go of my hate and wish to
Open my heart and Love you again.

***

So I must ask you one small favor,
Please: Lift the pain that divides my self
from my other half.
And show me a better way,
Because my habits, thoughts and views
are devouring my soul,
It is without you that I no longer feel whole.

You have written so well of the reality of being separated from God. Your wisdom in knowing we are nothing without Him is glorious...nowhere to go now but up and into the light of His Love...Ellie

This is a great piece of work, CitiZen!  I think I will try to follow your writings a lot more.  THey are very original, and quite to the point, if this poem is of any indication.  Your style of portraying exactly how something is, blending both poetic language and actual real-life descriptions, is admirable.

This poem is a very good testament to what happens when one grows far away from God.  I know how you feel, having just gone through one of the most awful spiritual/logic wars of my life.

The ways of the world can surely blind us. Bitterness tends to over take thoughts, and we become seperated from God through the pain.

You've written an excellent piece depicting this.

But the hope and the realization at the end are worth it all! For without this pain, without our bottom, we wouldn't know the joy of God.

God bless you today and always!

I know not what the future holds,
but I know Who holds the future.

I don't question YOUR existance - GOD

A very well written piece!  No wonder God calls us His children when so often we think we know better than He does.  Sure is childish of us.  As we come to realize the truth of our waywardness, we're in awe at the loving forgiveness He bestows on us, restoring us to the warmth of His care.  Thank you for sharing this.  Rae
