They had their downy jackets on,
Their wings were tucked inside,
They wouldn't need them anyway,
For today they'd only slide;
Down the heavenly snowy hills,
That looked like soft meringue,
And as more cherubs gathered,
They all joined in and sang;
Melodies of Christmas,
Floated through the air,
As the sweetest little voices,
Sang without a care.
But sitting off all by himself,
Was a wee one alone by the fire,
He thought his voice not good enough,
For this glorious heavenly choir.
So an older angel spoke to him,
Of his voice years ago,
How it squeaked and broke alot,
And sometimes stopped the show;
He told how he kept on singing,
For it brought him so much joy,
He stood and started walking back,
Now holding the hand of the boy.
Encouraged to join the others,
The wee one stayed by his side,
Just mouthing the words silently...
At least they'd think he tried;
Slowly he started trying to hit notes,
And somehow was doing it right,
The other cherubs stood in awe,
As he alone sang "Silent Night."
Wide eyed, rosy cheeked cherubs,
Glowing halos now standing tall,
As they smiled and applauded the wee one,
Who found he could sing after all.

BSC

this poem was so pretty and it brought a tear to my eye. thanks

Dear Bonnie; I love how you express here the truth that we all need encouragement and your beautiful poetry always does that for me. love, Ellie
