Note: I did not write this! It was written by a sage whose name I cannot remember. I will get it if anyone needs it. I just wanted to throw it out here for some comments. ---------------------------------------------------- Praying ,which is thought of as an inner formal service of God and hence as a means of Grace, is a superstitious illusion; for it is no more than a stated wish directed to a Being who needs no such information regarding the inner disposition of the wisher. Therefore, nothing is accomplished by it, and it discharges none of the duties to which, as commands of God, we are obligated; hence God is not really served. However, a heartfelt wish to be well pleasing to God in our every act and abstention, or in other words, the disposition, accompanying all our actions, to perform these acts as though they were being executed in the service & presence of God, is the true Spirit of prayer which can, be present in us, without ceasing |

I guess it all depends on one's understanding of prayer. If you interpret prayer as being a conversation with God, not merely an asking for things, then I think we all most definitely need to pray! Denise |

I firmly believe prayer changes the person who prays, thus serves God, but the second part of this writing does say a lot. Be doers of the word, not just hearers and speakers, by living it. In all things give thanks and pray without ceasing is definitely a call to live according to His will. Thanks for sharing this. |

...prayer is conversing with God. Not being judgemental but practical in interpretation, the author does not know truth, as from the Word of God.... from the beginning of time, throughout the Bible, men of God have prayed unto Him, documented prayers.... of needs, praise and worship. How would one communicate with God, if not through prayer? you asked for comments and I hope mine doesn't cause any strife or hurt anyone else's feelings, or their beliefs, but to let this go without a response from me,( to me), would be to deny my Saviour, Jesus Christ, based on the wording of the poem and your asking for feedback; otherwise, I would not have responded. Thank you again, for the opportunity to share my faith. Marcy |
