Heart untarnished by misuse Genius son of common man Father fails to understand And breaks him with abuse Now a man touched by mystery Swaying hearts like a rock song Carved of oiled iron wood strong Diving in his cool pool of creativity Unbound but lacks freedom to be Plethora of purity in his soul Sovereign of what he controls But for damage, could be anything Govern, teach, paint, or sing His light is veiled in darkness Lonely lover comes, dream’s kiss Flying on threadbare carpets of magic Always leaves before love becomes tragic Tall as California redwood trees, Rain that brings me to my knees Kiss like a prince shakes me Kiss of passion awakens me Trying to hold him, like fireflies Chasing after rare butterflies Capturing the rainbow’s end In the leprechaun land of pretend © 1999 Corinne Bailey |
