A Different Time, A Different Place

I think I've seen this place before
I recognize the warming feel
I don't know where, I don't know when
I only know the vision's real

I think I recognize the smell
Of lilacs floating in the air
Isn't that the smell I knew
In childhood's most hour fair?

A grandson's nose so curiously
Pressed against the window pane
Is that him or is it me
Watching springtime's gentle rain?

Wasn't it just yesterday
That very bird with scalloped wing
Perched outside my bedroom window
Sang that same melodic sing?

I think I've touched this flower before
Many, many years ago
'Twas sent to me a valentine
A father's tender love to show

And looking now in daughter's eyes
A different time, a different place
In the shadow of her smile
I think I see my mother's face

There is SO much in this poem, Elizabeth. Isn't it wonderful, and scary, that we can relive our lives through our children?

Elizabeth,
You are blessed
That is how to say it best.
You've learned again to spread your wings
And fly above some earthly things.

This is so beautiful, Elizabeth! I love the theme of this one! Reflections of life, then and now!

Yesterday is history, tomorrow just a mystery. And if today is good to me how could I ask for more?
