To stand before a listening crowd And let one's feelings pour aloud To fall upon the hardened ears Of those who smile but do not hear And put oneself through that castration Makes me feel the same frustration As singing to the deaf Or dancing for the blind. I'll put no more my words to rhyme Nor take part in this pantomime Of singing to the deaf Or dancing for the blind. At times, a soul will raise his hand And say to me, "I understand!" But very few and far between Are those who say just what they mean. It strikes a certain irony Within a special part of me. To carry on would make no sense; I'll not join in this cruel pretense Of singing to the deaf And dancing for the blind. Then, when my pen is stopped by age, And Fate has turned the final page, All the things I tried to say Will join me as I pass away. But, as I leave this world behind, I'll go out wearing peace of mind Because I didn't compromise Or cut my feelings down to size And words above my grave will read "Here lies a man who didn't need The singing to the deaf Or dancing for the blind Or pleading to an empty mind." All this and more I leave behind, The singing - screaming! - at the deaf; Dancing for the blind. (only kidding) |

Bal: Can you talk a little louder please, my battery just ran out....and yes, I'm slightly deaf but I'm kidding cause the heart can always hear who someone is it's just hearing the words that's difficult.. HUSG Great post!!! ps: The worst thing is..."no need to shout, I'm deaf not stupid"...*g*....ooops ------------------ There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle, or the mirror that reflects it... Well now, Balladeer, it would just be absolutely IMPOSSIBLE, IMPOSSIBLE, I say, for your words to go with you to the grave! You have so skillfully and beautifully implanted them in our hearts where they will stay! YOU CAN'T HAVE THEM BACK!!!!! ANOTHER WONDERFUL POEM, BY THE WAY!!!!! ------------------ Denise |

Balladeer - You've enlightened me with this one for sure. The deaf man SAW the smile I wore, as I sang my song. He knew that I invited him to come and sing along. Through ears that hear, the blind man HEARD the music of the dance indeed. Joining me in raphsody gliding across the floor, singing the very song of me. While the deaf man may not know that I sing slightly off key, the blind man will surely know the feet I step on are his. ------------------ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

I remember this from the first time posted...I loved it then and still do ------------------ "When you come to the edge of the light which is all you know. And are about to step off into the darkness that is unknown...Faith is knowing one of two things will happen...there will be something to stand on...or you will learn how to fly." -Unknown |

I agree with PVD, profound messages in your artful words. I may be deaf but I can still feel the vibration of your beat, I may be blind but can still feel the gentle touch of your hand... ------------------ Julie ------------------------- Shoot for the moon. Balladeer, I'm a little deaf, a little blind And not so clear in my mind, But I have never lost my feel. And to me you always had appeal. So say no more about your stone, Or I will make of you a clone. That must stay and cannot roam, Until each day he speak a poem. |

I can not say that I am blind I see your words then hear my mind. Now my emotions you evoke, and thoughts I hear from words you wrote. So I may dance a little while because your words evoke a smile ------------------ Yesterday is history, tomorrow just a mystery. And if today is good to me how could I ask for more? |

Balladeer. Wonderful verses, and so true Of those that have a different mind And take not time to listen to A different song, a different rhyme Elizabeth |
