This poem is being posted by Virginia Scheffey, Elizabeth's sister-in-law. Some Words for Sy The poet's poet, slick and sly The English language would defy No dappled steed can match his speed At pulling words the mind to feed For Sy is so above the rest Vocabulary to the test Inventing rhyme, inventing word That no one ever, ever heard I speak not only for myself But Dictionary on the shelf For every time I read this Muse It simply shivers in its shoes Cover torn and pages weary Wonders why the massive query Panics as I search a word The Dictionary never heard And Sy up in his ivory tower Dropping words like tropic shower Rebuking Greek Mythology Revamping etymology Redefining old glottology With simply no apology He flourishes in verbal power He brandishes linguistic grace Puts Noam Chomsky in his place And former bards from former days Gaze through linguistic mistic haze He radiates the darkest dark He captivates the meadow lark He imitates the feeding shark With frenzied phrase of vision stark Aesthetic notion rules his hand And phonics bow at its demand It waves its magic verbal wand And sprinkles words of which you're fond Then when he's got you in his grasp He slowly turns the vice's clasp And slyly pens eccentric word That word you never, ever heard I am simply quite confused And certainly not the least amused You'd think he'd show some sympathy For a simple poet just like me I can almost see his face A smirk my pen would sure erase Basking in his childlike glee And gloating at my ennui But I have got some words for him My patience doesn't run that thin A verse not meant to show regret This epoppee's flotsome ennui of Kismet Elizabeth Santos |

What did y'all say? LOL...keep it simple for us simpletons, eh? ------------------ Once I was brilliant, now I no longer shine, but the twinkle in my eye speaks of another time. |

Rats. I gave a wonderful retort to the both of you, then it wouldn't go through, and now the words are lost...double rats. Great job to the both...you're keeping each other on your toes. And thanks, Virginia, for posting for Elizabeth. |

Elizabrth, Again I've got sand in my eye You have showered me with roses petals And have even picked away the nettles. How in heaven can I brew, A bouquet of flattery as clever as you. You made me sigh you made me cry I even heard a laugh go bye. I cannot top your elegance Not even if I were a prince. Some you said not true you know But even if it were quit so I think myself a simple man. That is as much as I can. I do not bask in child like glee Nor do I feel your ennui. I see a twinkle in your eye. I feel your mind in quick reply. So I prescribe each day with jam, You tell me just how grand I am. |
