One Fisherman Prayed For Another

Bless that fishing man, Lord. I understand
he studied twelve years to become a doctor.
Now he makes his gain, from all my aches and pain
and stiching up the cuts on Son and Daughter.
He just bought a yacht. So many things he's got.
His golf cart's autographed by Arnold Palmer.
While I can't pay for sports and all the lab reports
and drugs that he prescribes to make me calmer.

He affords his fun by all the things he's done
for me and all his patients. But I know
while I must work and strive, struggle to survive,
he's fishing somewhere up in Colorado.
I can't afford a trip. Though I'd sure like to get
away, go fishing just for recreation.
You know the reason why is just because that my
last surgery just paid for his vacation.

But I would like to think that when I cross the brink
there's going to be some fishing for me too.
I don't want you to think that I'm complaining, Lord.
Without him, Lord I don't know what I'd do.
Many times we went. He never charged a cent.
But instead he hugged the kids and shook my hand.
Now I wish that you would do something for me to.
To repay the kindness of that fisherman.
Let him catch a fish, as big as he could wish
to hang upon his wall for all to see.
Lord the way we live, It's all that I can give
to pay him back for all he's done for me.
AMEN

Thanks, Hoot. There's as much truth in this as there is poetry. I was in a "pay back" attitude when I found this in my archives. And I wasn't thinking of the pay back as a penelty so it fit the way I felt.

Denise, I love deep sea fishing but have not been in years. I hope you are right!
