Utah Pete’s Last Ride Utah Pete and Teddy Blue- Were breaking broncs one day. As Teddy wound up in the dirt, I heard old Utah say... The mare ain’t foaled- Or hoss been borned- That I cain’t break to ride.. So Ted, he said, while spittin’ dirt- “It’s high time that you tried” They snubbed him short, put blinders on- And Utah climbed astraddle- Stuck his boots into the stir’ps And scrunched .down in the saddle, Pulled his hat down to the ears- And clinched his jaws real tight, Said, “Turn ‘im loose”! Through gritted teeth And readied for the fight. That hoss blew up, “I swear he did”! And jumped ‘bout twelve feet high- He come down hard, and tried to put Old Utah in the sky.. Now Utah was a man to brag- But a good bronc rider, too. He took first place in Prescott- Way back in sixty two.. He put a mighty purty ride- On that hard-headed bay... But that hoss fought and bellered Each second of the way That hoss bucked right, then started left- Old Utah was a grinning, He seemed to loose his humor, When that pony started spinning... Round and round and round they went- The dust begin to spin- They stirred up a tornado- What we all called whirlwinds. That whirlwind picked up hoss and man- And bore ‘em o’er the fence, That pony still a’pitchin’ And we haven’t seen ‘em since. No way a knowin’ I suppose- If old Utah got throwed... But if I was a bettin’ man- I’d say the bay got rode ------------------ Live large, people! ~GS~ http://www.geocities.com/montcogunslinger/HomePage.html |
