The Bridge What is that strange transparent curtain that I see All around his being, that tries to threaten me That makes him unapproachable, an island in the sea From the inside looking out, does he know the curtain's there? The first part of his character of which I was aware A mysterious sheltering veil, just blowing in the air So closely drawn that those outside are able to look in But cannot reach his heart or understand the man within A safe, translucent window, to protect him from the wind Words and music, poetry and books provide an added shield To mask the heart with all the wondrous beauty that they yield Sweet aesthetic notions, abundant in the field Perhaps some day a storm will come and break the shield apart And withdraw the curtain to reveal the secrets of his heart A long awaited glorious storm, to squelch the summer parch When the mysterious veil is lifted, his path is waiting there A bridge across the stream of life his footsteps never dared A trestle so precarious to be tread upon with care Elizabeth Santos |

Elizabeth ... you take inspiration to the limit with this one. I am complemented enormously. Keep it up, gal. ------------------ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |
